Police responded to a Huntington Avenue home at around 12:55 a.m. Monday for a report of two people shot, police said.

The investigation so far seems to indicate that a 25-year-old man shot his 27-year-old girlfriend, then turned the gun on himself, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to the hospital and is in critical condition, police said.

This is the second apparent murder-suicide in the area in just over a week. On Aug. 8, a man shot and killed a woman and then himself in Gardner. There were no survivors.

Worcester police are investigating the Monday, Aug. 17 incident. The names of the people involved have not been released.
